For some being center stage is frightening but for others, like North East ISD student Nicholas Barron, it’s where they feel most comfortable. Barron attends North East School of Arts, a magnet school within North East ISD.  He traveled to New York to participate in the Jimmy Awards where he won best performance by an actor and was awarded a $25,000 scholarship. He danced in group numbers and also performed a solo to “This Not Over Yet” from “Parade.”

Barron was nominated by Las Casas Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of the performing arts through education and scholarships. He was one of 92 performers from across the country that trained with theater professionals. The performing arts are vital to the San Antonio community and it’s necessary that we provide support to artists and the theaters in which they perform.
