Fort Sam Houston ISD - Journalism Students Attend National Conference in Chi-Town

Cole photography and journalism students traveled to attend and compete at the JEA/NSPA national journalism conference in Chicago with over 6300 students from across the United States! Junior, Raquelle Bennett competed in the Photography Portfolio division at the conference and was one of only three students in the country to receive a Superior Rating.

The portfolio competition is the most difficult and competitive division, usually reserved for seniors, as students may only enter once in their high school career.

San Antonio ISD - Tribute to Det. Benjamin Marconi at Woodlawn Elementary

San Antonio Police Department officers Billy Morgan, who previously attended Woodlawn Elementary (left), and Doug Greene (right) today read the book “The Brave Cowboy” and sang songs to students at the campus, now Woodlawn Academy.

The presentation was a tribute to Det. Benjamin Marconi during the second anniversary of his death. Det. Marconi also had attended Woodlawn Elementary. Officer Morgan remembers Marconi visiting the school to sing holiday carols when he was a student, which inspired Morgan to become a police officer.

Randolph Field ISD - Soccer Paves Way for Student to Attend UTSA

Ariana Gomez, a San Antonio native and Randolph High School student, began recreational league soccer at the age of 4. Little did she know, at the age of 16, her passion for the game would prosper into a full scholarship to the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her proud father, Jerry Gomez says, “I think if she continues to play the way she plays and continues to develop the way she has developed, I have no doubt in my mind that she could play professionally.”  Congratulations!

Floresville ISD - Community of Character Award Goes to...
At their November meeting, the FISD Board of Trustees recognized Dylan Pennell and Cole Lebrun with the Community of Character Award. Cole and Dylan work at Floresville South Elementary in Kindergarten classrooms as part of the FHS Work Based Learning Program. During homecoming week, Dylan and Cole wanted share some Tiger spirit and Homecoming excitement with their kinder friends. With the help of their mothers and grandmothers, they made a mum for every single kindergartner at FSE!
