Klein ISD senior Soyeong “Ria” Kang’s powerful piece of artwork titled “Struggle” was selected by Congressman Dan Crenshaw’s office to represent the Texas 2nd Congressional District in Washington D.C.
Each year, the Congressional Institute sponsors the nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize artistic talent in each congressional district. Students enter their artwork to their representative’s office, and district artists select the winners. Winning artists are recognized in their district and at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC, and their works are displayed for a full year at the Capitol.
Klein High School art teacher Dee Burgess, encouraged and supported Ria Kang’s passion and talent for art through the school’s art program. Ria has successfully competed in a number of visual art contests, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where her artwork, “Longhorn” was an auction award winner.
