KPRC Cool Schools

Go Public’s Cool Schools is a collaboration between Go Public, KPRC’s Houston Live Show and member ISDs in the Houston/Gulf Coast area.  Cool Schools features academic and extracurricular programs, student successes, and inspirational educators.

Cool Schools showcases many programs and successes including athletics, student leadership, space, and more.

KLEIN ISD

Cool Schools spotlights the Water Warriors initiative after Hurricane Harvey.

CLEAR CREEK ISD

Cool Schools highlights a STEM program and partnership with NASA.

BOB COVEY

 Cool Schools interviews the president about the importance of public education within our Independent School Districts (ISDs).

NEEDVILLE ISD

Cool Schools features inspirational teachers and students in a science program, a recycling initiative inspired by Greta Thunberg, and a special message for veterans.

BARBERS HILL ISD

Cool Schools features programs that provide hands-on experiences and industry certifications in health sciences, welding, and woodworking.

CY-FAIR ISD

Cool Schools spotlights new and innovative ways students are discovering their future careers.

SHELDON ISD

Cools Schools spotlights how students created a therapeutic toy to help children with cerebral palsy, a 3-D printing lab, and robotics.

ROYAL ISD

Cool Schools features the many pathways including an early college high school where students graduate with an associate’s degree.

HUMBLE ISD

Cool Schools shines a light on an innovative program that partners with a skate park to help students learn engineering, construction, and design.

DEER PARK ISD

Cool Schools features high school students mentoring elementary students as part of a college readiness program.

ANGLETON ISD

Cool Schools features innovative breakfast programs to ensure students have a healthy start to the day.

ALIEF ISD

Cool Schools features veterinary sciences program including a pet grooming service open to the public.

GALENA PARK ISD

North Shore High School swimmer, Erika Yaguez, is making a name for herself in Galena Park ISD, breaking personal and school records and attending multiple competitions.

FORT BEND ISD

Students were paired with trained, adult, community volunteer mentors, who provided the students with a positive adult relationship and assisted with key learning in the areas of reading, writing, and science through the “All In” mentoring program.

CLEVELAND ISD

The Cleveland High School Royal Braves Band did an outstanding job at the National Association of Military Marching Bands competition!

COLUMBIA-BRAZORIA ISD

Students keep the community informed with Colombia High School’s “Paint It Maroon.” The monthly publication is student-run, and it highlights positive stories around the district like extraordinary teachers and school events.

CY-FAIR ISD

Choir Directors across Cypress- Fairbanks ISD shared a moving rendition of “O Love” to honor their class of 2020 graduating seniors.

ROYAL ISD

Students submitted artwork, photos, and positive messages to show appreciation for their teachers. Royal ISD also honored its senior graduates with a celebratory parade. Seniors and their families drove through cheering Royal ISD staff and teachers and received their caps and gowns, along with gifts and custom yard signs.

SANTA FE ISD

Santa Fe High School teacher, Ms. Nikaran, showed appreciation for her students by surprising them with personal gifts. Santa Fe ISD honored their graduates with a drive-thru event to pick up their caps and gowns, and Santa Fe High School teachers and staff were on-site to cheer on the students and their families.

KLEIN, BARBERS HILL, NEEDSVILLE ISD

Klein ISD community businesses hosted a free drive-thru photoshoot for over 600 graduating seniors. The students received custom portraits and a catered lunch.

Barbers Hill ISD set up an impressive display to honor its graduating seniors. Senior portraits were placed prominently on campus to congratulate the students on their accomplishments.

Needville ISD surprised Needville High School’s top 10 students to celebrate their hard work. The students received deliveries of yard signs from their principal and school administrators.

FORT BEND ISD

Fort Bend ISD teachers, Ms. Barron and Ms. Nguyen, made an adorable video of a popular Disney song for their students in hopes that it would boost the spirits of everyone in quarantine.
 
Alief ISD recognized their parent partner MVP’s and thanked them for going above and beyond to continue to engage their children in distance learning during the school closures.
 
Cleveland ISD’s Transportation Department honored the class of 2020 with a huge bus display to congratulate the graduates on all their hard work.
