Go Public is highlighting some of the top mentor and educator stories in each district to give you a peek into what it takes to produce amazing students. Here are a few examples of why SWISD and Go Public is so proud of these educators!

-Mrs. Patterson’s 7th-grade science class at Judith A Resnik Middle School learns by singing. Mrs. Patterson uses the beats to modern music and subs song lyrics for science vocabulary so that her students find it easier to recall and comprehend.

-Mr. Carl Dickerson of Sky Harbour Elementary School has given back to the students and community by creating a theater club called The Dolphin Drama program. His drama students are enjoying success in the entertainment world in high school and beyond. You would be surprised to know that his student performers are only in elementary school, and one of his former students is now starring in a Netflix series!

-Big Country Elementary School teachers use fall fest to encourage team building activities amongst students and staff.

-Southwest ISD’s Ms. Trejo inspires students to love reading and learning. These kids speak about what they love the most about their favorite teacher and mentor, Ms. Trejo.

-Mr. Pearson of Scobee Middle School introduces his students to a “Speed Dating” book event. He allows the students to write their “first impressions” of the book, i.e. the cover, all the way into developing a real “love story” for the book they choose. Such a clever way to engage these readers!
