Boerne ISD’s Digital Learning team recently introduced SMART Suite Resources technology into some of the District’s campuses. The SMART boards serve as whiteboards with the added function of allowing teachers to make lessons more engaging, reinforcing, and collaborative in areas of reading, online videos, activities, and games. SMART board technology works with Google classroom and other SMART Resources to enable teachers to easily use and share with their students and colleagues.

One SMART board user, third-grade teacher Stephanie Edmondson, at Herff Elementary, enjoys working the SMART resources. “What makes this technology so great,” said Mrs. Edmondson, “is that the kids have the freedom to work on the lesson at their own pace and even revisit topics where they have a special interest. Then, when I want to pull the class back together, I’ll ask them some questions and have them use ‘shout it out’ to send in their answers – they enter their answers right there on their Chromebooks, and they display anonymously on the SMART Board.” The “shout it out” feature can help increase participation from students who might be intimidated by providing answers in front of the class.

Boerne ISD is excited to continue working with the SMART technology tools to make learning exciting and meaningful for their students.
