This school year, 110 Floresville High School students have earned 256 industry certifications in welding and auto mechanics. Floresville ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides over 14 programs of study with 28 possible industry certification options. Connecting students’ interests and helping them find their passions often leads students to fulfilling careers not just “jobs”.

“We currently have over 50 new students in Introduction to Welding this term and anticipate another round of certifications,” said CTE Coordinator, Dr. Michaela Steele.
She also anticipates additional certifications in Floral, Automotive, and Information Technology this spring. All certifications exams are paid for by FISD with funds provided by the Texas Education Agency for CTE programs, giving all students the opportunity to earn certifications.
According to Steele, FISD continues to expand certification options. New certifications this year include Education AIde 1 for students interested in a career in education and CompTIA for students interested in Information Technology.

“As we work to provide students with opportunities to explore many interests, we are also helping them find careers that inspire them to work hard and live more fulfilling lives, prosperous lives, which is what we want for every student at FISD,” said Dr. Sherri Bays, FISD Superintendent.
