For the past three years, North East ISD student artists and other students in collaboration with the art students have participated in Operation Proud Nation. Operation Proud Nation is a community wide program that takes place in cities across the country. Students (grades 8-12) in each city along with veterans, members of the military and military families, create an 8.5″x11″ artwork and attach a message thanking members of the military for their service and sacrifice.
Thousands of artworks are collected from coast to coast and used to create a giant 4’x8′ mosaic mural that is installed at the Pentagon. In addition, each city receives their own 4’x6′ edition of the mosaic mural that members of their community helped to create. Participants can also see the mosaic mural online in the Project S.N.A.P. Online Art Museum, and see how their artwork fits into the “big picture” as well as the message that they wrote. In addition, a copy of each artwork is mailed to a member of the military. Last year NEISD created 627 artworks for this project and this year students created 940. We are a large part of this amazing project and an integral part of acknowledging the tremendous contribution our military makes to our communities, the city of San Antonio, our state, and our nation.
