Students Reading More Through District-Wide Competitions

Public school districts in San Antonio provide students with friendly book-centered competitions that encourage reading!

Battle of The Bluebonnets!

Edgewood ISD and East Central ISD  gathered students to participate in their annual Battle of the Bluebonnets. Librarians partnered across the San Antonio districts to promote reading for pleasure among their students.

Every year Texas Library Association, with the help of more than 100,000 elementary and middle school students around Texas, releases a list of creative, diverse, and thought-provoking titles. This year, the master list consisted of 1050 books for students to read. From this list, favorites are chosen from the readers themselves and are refined by the Association to compose their annual list of  2022-2023 Texas Bluebonnet Awarded Books. In total, 20 fiction and non-fiction books were awarded.

East Central ISD and Edgewood ISD’s Battle of the Bluebonnets allowed students to choose books off of the Texas Library Association’s awarded titles.  The students tested their knowledge for a chance to compete in a city-wide competition. After participating in book clubs and practicing their teamwork, students had to answer 3 rounds of 10 questions without any notes. Students did a fantastic job in representing their schools!
