High School CTE Culinary Arts Showcase – Cinco de Mayo

We’re spotlighting the Culinary Arts programs and student talent! Submissions include a recipe and photo submitted by an individual student or student team.

The recipe submission must include a photo of the final appetizer, main dish, or dessert. We’ll feature the submissions for Cinco de Mayo (May 5, 2024).

HOW TO WIN

Open to high school culinary arts students in the Go Public member districts*. Submissions will be judged by a panel of judges. Submissions can be appetizers, main courses, or desserts and follow the scoring criteria:

  • Cinco de Mayo Theme (Tex-Mex, Mexican food)- 25 pts
  • Recipe (appeal, originality, creativity) – 25 pts
  • Color- 25 pts
  • Presentation – 25 pts
  • Photo must be clear and well lit.
  • Recipe needs to be organized and easy to follow. We request sharing a link in Google Drive. Please make sure the sharing is enabled where we can view it.
  • In judging the recipe, we’ll look at the appeal of the food and originality of the recipe. You can be inspired by other recipes, but make it your own. If your submission uses a published recipe, please cite the source. Find a way to make it original. For example, if your recipe is found on a website, include that in your recipe and then tell us how you made it original.
  • Presentation can include plating, festive elements around the plate or dish, and Cinco de Mayo fun!
  • Color is using ingredients, in the recipe or plating/presentation, to bring in a pop of color.

We may reach out to the entrant for additional photos of themselves. Student submissions are representative of their school’s Culinary Arts program and teacher. Each submission will also include the name of the school and teacher.

We’ll have a Top 10 and then scholarship prizes for the top 3. All winners will receive certificates and a swag bag. 
1st – $250
2nd – $150
3rd – $100

Culinary Arts Teachers will be entered into a random drawing for one of three $100 Amazon Gift Cards.

SUBMISSIONS OPEN: April 15th, 2024 8AM CST, upload your recipe with photos
SUBMISSIONS CLOSE: April 22nd 11:59PM CST
WINNERS ANNOUNCED: May 1st, Noon CST
