Southside ISD BBQ team had the incredible opportunity to compete in the National High School BBQ Association competition in Kansas City. These young chefs from Julius L. Matthey Middle School cooked away the competition, earning 1st Place in Chili, 2nd Place in Ribeye, 4th Place in Chicken Lollipop, 6th Place in Ribs, 9th Place in Brisket, and 10th Place in Grilled Cheese!
The journey to nationals began after they brought the heat to the State Championship in Burnet, TX, competing against 106 teams. They held their ground against other teams and came away with 6th overall, making them the only middle school to place on the top 10.
The team’s hard work and dedication were evident throughout their entire journey to becoming national champions! The future looks bright for these Southside ISD culinary students, and their grill skills are surely only going to get better from here!
