Northside ISD students explored STEM lessons during educational field trips and at the STEM Sisters Summer Camp. The Assistance League of San Antonio’s Enhanced Learning Awards made the field trips possible, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to hands-on experiences.
Title I elementary schools from NISD – Mead, McDermott, Myers, and Timberwilde – embarked on exciting and informative field trips to the Texas State Aquarium, the Cibolo Nature Center, and the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology. These students learned about marine ecosystems, connecting with nature, and technological innovations.
“I’m thankful to be on this amazing field trip and to ride a charter bus for the first time,” Mead Elementary fifth-grader Jordan said. “I’ve learned so much about marine animals and their ecosystems, and how we can help protect them.”
The STEM Sisters Summer Camp inspires girls from elementary schools across NISD to discover their potential as future STEM leaders. Students in this program tackle real-world challenges and have the opportunity to design various projects, including tabletop zip lines and windmills.
The summer camp creates a positive environment where girls are encouraged to explore STEM alongside a supportive group of peers. The program addresses the underrepresentation of young women in STEM by offering exciting activities and promoting female empowerment.
