Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD is bringing a special story to life through the publication of a children’s book about Baxter the Bobcat, Bell Manor Elementary’s beloved comfort dog. With support from the HEB ISD Education Foundation, the school is turning this heartfelt project into reality.
Baxter, a trained Comfort and Counseling Assistance Dog from Interquest C.A.R.E.S. He plays a meaningful role in the daily life of the school. Interquest C.A.R.E.S. provides specially selected and professionally trained Labrador or Golden Retrievers to serve as emotional support tools for school staff. As a result, these dogs help foster a safe, supportive environment where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
At Bell Manor Elementary, Baxter is more than a companion. He is a trusted member of the school community. As part of a special book project, the school’s third-grade scholars put their editing skills to work. They reviewed and polished the nonfiction text. Through this process, they gained hands-on experience in publishing. Additionally, the project helped them build confidence in their writing and teamwork skills.
Thanks to the HEB ISD Education Foundation, the story of Baxter and his positive impact on students is being captured in a book that will inspire young readers and celebrate the power of comfort and connection in education!
