Gainesville ISD students participated in the Gainesville, Texas Fire-Rescue Stop, Drop, and Read Program, which encourages and rewards students for reading during the school year.

Librarians or teachers select students who have read the most books or shown the greatest improvement in reading. These students earn a special reward, breakfast at the fire station with firefighters. After enjoying their meal, the students tour the station and explore the fire apparatus. Firefighters then transport the students back to their respective schools in a fire truck. At the end of the trip, each student is given a red backpack featuring the Gainesville Fire Rescue patch.

The Stop, Drop, and Read program recognized outstanding students from three Gainesville ISD campuses! From W.E. Chalmers Elementary, Jazaria, Cason, Lillian, Cora, Dante, and Issac were honored for their exceptional reading efforts. Esai and Kaylee were selected from Gainesville Intermediate, and Jax and Lindsay were the recipients from Edison Elementary.
