Manor ISD students from Lagos Elementary wrote and published their book “BEE the Change in the World of Dyslexia” with their Dyslexia teacher, Mrs. Griffin-Hamlin. The book portrays the perspective of students with dyslexia, or what Hamlin calls a “powerful ability.”

Hamlin and her student authors celebrated the release of their book with family and district administrators at a publishing party. The fun continued at the after-party held at Sno Ball Dude Shave Ice, where Manor ISD Superintendent Dr. Robert Sormani stopped by for autographs from the authors.

This book is a testament to the hard work and growth of these Lagos Elementary students throughout their time in the classroom. Their story and collaboration serve to inspire others and change the negative connotations around dyslexia. As the back of their book describes, “dyslexia is not a bad word and the students who have the label should never feel that way.”
