Splendora ISD recently gave students and families a chance to step back in time with its History in the Making event. The experience was designed to help fifth and eighth graders connect with the past in a more hands-on, meaningful way. Instead of only reading about history, students were able to see it, hear it, and take part in it through interactive activities.
Students explored what life was like during the American Revolution by moving through different stations that featured colonial-style cooking, music from that time, early medical tools, and demonstrations of battle formations. Beyond the reenactments, students joined in debates, roleplayed key moments, and took part in discussions that explored the beliefs and struggles of that era. This type of active learning encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and a deeper connection to the founding principles of the United States.
The event was made possible through the support of Revolutionary Education and the Splendora ISD Education Foundation. Students from high school programs like culinary arts, AFJROTC, and band also played a role in creating an engaging experience. By the end of the day, students had a better idea of what life was like back then and why it still matters now.
