Lewisville ISD fifth-grade students from Old Settlers Elementary and fourth-grade students from Peters Colony Elementary took a morning trip to LISDOLA for a hands-on learning experience, taking learning to the outdoors!
In 1995, the U.S. Department of Education supplied LISD with 84 acres to use for environmental learning, now called Lewisville ISD’s Outdoor Learning Area (LISDOLA). They host outdoor science-based experiences for all LISD campuses from across the district, offering student learning opportunities for first, second, fourth, fifth and seventh grades.
Their network of more than 20 walking trails, activity areas and indoor classrooms provide foundational outdoor adventures for more than 10,000 of our students each year! They also partner with the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area to bring field experiences to LISD 7th graders.
In addition to the nature trails, LISDOLA offers water works, dissecting and plant growing, team-building exercises, lessons about solar panels, a time machine on the walking trail, fossils, recycling and food scrap stations to turn into compostable usage, and much more.
What an amazing opportunity for a hands-on learning experience!
