Lake Travis ISD Brings Fresh Food to Schools

LTISD Carrot Harvesting

Lake Travis ISD (LTISD) is strengthening its commitment to fresh, nutritious meals through partnerships that bring farm-to-school initiatives to life! Thanks to the district’s partnership with the Central Texas Food Bank, the Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) staff recently accompanied farmers at Farmshare Austin to harvest fresh carrots that will soon be served in LTISD schools.

Additionally, the FANS team met with the Student Advisory Council of the LTISD Superintendent to provide an inside look at the planning process for school meals. During a taste test for possible new menu items, such as a fresh chicken sandwich option, students offered insightful input. Their observations aid in creating meal plans that strike a balance between student preferences, affordability, and nutrition.
