The San Marcos CISD students of Mendez Elementary took on the challenge of READBowl 2025, a global reading competition founded by former NFL player Malcolm Mitchell. This four-week event encouraged students to read each night, track their minutes, and compete with teams from around the world for the title of reading champions. READBowl kicked off the week before the College Football National Championship and concluded with a Glow in the Dark Pep Rally right after Super Bowl Sunday.

Throughout the competition, students worked hard to read as much as possible, and their dedication paid off. The homeroom classes with the most minutes each week earned a special reward—ice cream sundaes, milkshakes, or stuffed toys! Congratulations to the teachers and their classes for participating in this amazing READBowl challenge!

Even though READBowl has come to an end, the Strikers from Mendez Elementary are not slowing down. Just like athletes continue training in the off-season, students still work in the “weight room”— reading their books! March Madness is right around the corner, and the Strikers are getting ready for the next challenge.
The students from Mendez Elementary are ready to keep the reading momentum going.
