Santa Fe ISD’s HOSA students launched an innovative initiative across three elementary schools known as the Teddy Bear Clinic. Under the leadership of Ms. Hinojosa, Health Science Teacher and recipient of a $3,400 TangerKids grant, this program aims to educate kindergarteners on the importance of healthcare visits.
TangerKids Grants provides funding for educational projects and programs. With this grant, students pursuing their Patient Care Technician certification through SFHS HOSA transformed classrooms into interactive mock doctor’s offices. Here, young patients bring their favorite stuffed animals for ‘check-ups,’ gaining firsthand knowledge about dental and doctor visits in a fun and reassuring environment.
Santa Fe High School’s HOSA is internationally recognized and endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and ACTE’s Health Science Education Division. HOSA’s mission is to promote healthcare career opportunities and improve healthcare delivery for all individuals. Through this partnership with the school, the Teddy Bear Clinic engages kindergarteners in learning about different healthcare fields available to them, complementing their understanding of the importance of healthcare visits.
