Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD Student Surprised By Author

Zoe Roseberry being surprised with the book "We Shall Overcome"

At Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, Zoe Roseberry, a fourth grade student at High Country Elementary School, would check out the same book every other week for the last year and a half. The book, “We Shall Overcome”, is an illustrated children’s book about the Civil Rights Movement, using lyrical text from the anthem “We Shall Overcome.”

After noticing Roseberry’s interest in the book, Cathy Fassett, the High Country Librarian, emailed the author asking for a signed copy of the book. Bryan Collier, the author, wrote back immediately, and a few weeks later Fassett received “We Shall Overcome” and “We are Here” with his autographs.

To finish surprising Roseberry, the school contacted her mother to be there and called her up to the office through the announcements. To finish the surprise, Fassett said to Roseberry, “You can’t check [‘We Shall Overcome’] out anymore,” before presenting her with the signed copies of the books.

EMS ISD librarians are a great example of the family culture that lies within their campuses!
