CORSICANA ISD

Mission

We believe that we must: – Educate every child – Provide every child the greatest opportunity to learn – Maintain a safe and secure environment: mentally, physically, emotionally and academically

Highlights

1- New Fire Academy: Through a partnership with Navarro College‚ Fire Academy, students in the Corsicana High School Career and Technical Education Dual Credit Program are able to start the path to a Fire & EMT Level 1 Certification which will enable them to apply for entry-level positions throughout the state.

2- Collins Scholarship/General Scholarship success: The Collins Scholarship was established in 1954 by James L. Collins when he left $1 million from his estate to serve CHS graduates. Today, the $20 million fund supports 80 former CHS with semester funding. Last year, 22 graduates earned $812,000 in potential funding from the scholarship. Also, CHS counselors assisted seniors in another $3.1 million in scholarships earned in a Title 1 district.

3- Night School: Created to recover students who dropped out following Covid shutdowns, Corsicana High School Night School program has grown to supply alternatives to those who may have otherwise fallen through the cracks. In its two years of existent, about 10% of CHS graduating class has been school students who otherwise would not have earned a degree.

4- FFA: Our Future Farmers of America program is one of the shining programs of our district. Annually it produces state and national level qualifiers and students earn thousands of dollars in scholarships through projects sold at ag shows. Currently, the CHS ag team has a national qualifier in Science Fair, a National Voting Delegate, and an American Degree Recipient.

5- Amazing Shake: The program at Corsicana Middle School has sent 10 finalists to Atlanta for the national Amazing Shake competition at the Ron Clark Academy. The contest places an emphasis on teaching manners, discipline, respect, and professional conduct. Throughout the contest, students are introduced to the nuances of professional human interaction as they are taught various skills such as how to give a proper handshake, how to provide high-quality answers in interviews, and how to remain composed under pressure. The program’s goal is to prepare students to present themselves exceptionally well for opportunities today and in the future.
