From National Blue Ribbon Schools, to National Soccer Champions to CITGO Innovation Academy and the Center for Advanced Careers, Alief ISD is a leader in providing quality education in preparing its students for post-secondary opportunities such as college, career or military services.
Certified teachers start in Pre-Kindergarten and continue through twelfth grade in delivering curriculum tailored to create leaders of the future. Special choice programs include: Center for Advanced Careers, STEM, Life Sciences Innovative Program, Alief International Academy, Alief Early College High School, Kerr High School and many more.

ENRICHING ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Dr. Anthony Mays
Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays has more than 20 years of experience as an education professional. He has served as a classroom teacher, principal, and administrator. He is currently the Interim Superintendent for Austin ISD, and before that, he served Austin ISD as its Chief of Schools. Prior to joining Austin ISD, he was the Senior Director of Schools for the Harris County Department of Education. He has worked in Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD, beginning his career at Pflugerville ISD as a special education teacher.
While serving as Chief of Schools in Austin ISD, Dr. Mays’ leadership resulted in raising the accountability rating, increasing industry-based certifications and associate degree attainments, supervising and supporting an Enrollment and Advocacy department to increase enrollment and retain students, and most recently as Interim Superintendent, successfully passing a $2.44 billion bond.
Dr. Mays has a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Huston-Tillotson University and a Master of Education from Texas State University. He received his doctorate in education from Tarleton State University. Dr. Mays is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Downtown and University of Houston-Lone Star College Kingwood.
Active in his community, he serves as vice chairman of the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators Central Office Commission, is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha, 100 Black Men and Texas Association of School Administrators.
