The non-profit, We Go Public (Go Public) provides resources and spotlights to help parents and the community learn about public education and public schools. Our website and tools include information about:
Our San Antonio-area Independent School Districts serve 340,238 students. Our school zones are broken up into ISDs (school districts).
The districts cover Bexar, the Hill Country, Comal, and Wilson counties.
Principals, teachers, counselors, nurses, and maintenance are a few of the roles working together to create an environment that is safe and supportive. Academics and extracurricular clubs provide opportunities to all students with varying interests and skill levels.
Superintendent Henry Yzaguirre grew up in our community, graduating from South San Antonio High School in 1990. After completing his education at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, he returned to familiar territory.
Yzaguirre had his first teaching and coaching job at West Campus, as well as tours at Carrillo Elementary School, Kazen Middle School, and eventually principal at South San Antonio High School. He then served as Executive Director of Student Support Services with the district, before leaving to the Southside Independent School District.
After serving as Executive Director of Operations for Southside ISD, Yzaguirre returned to South San ISD in December 2021 as Interim Superintendent.
Since his arrival, Yzaguirre has assembled a new leadership team to tackle the district’s needs.
“I know firsthand how to make better decisions in getting our kids better resources so they can become productive citizens and hopefully come back and serve their community again,” Yzaguirre said. “That’s the ultimate goal and that’s why I am here to come back to serve my community that put me on the path I am on now.”
Yzaguirre has worked alongside the South San ISD Board of Trustees to give the district’s teachers, staff, and students all the tools and resources to be successful.
