Fostering Future Leaders with Compassion: The inaugural meeting of Alamo Heights ISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council marked the beginning of an exciting year for this diverse group of students, including 11th graders, 8th graders, and 5th graders from Cambridge and Woodridge.
Their discussions revolved around the essence of leadership and how to put it into practice. The overarching aim of the School District is to ensure that every student becomes a confident, resilient, and successful global citizen. The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) is a key avenue for students to actively contribute to major district decisions. It also serves as an invaluable platform for imparting lessons in organizational management, civic engagement, and collaborative decision-making. By encouraging students to express their views and provide candid feedback on critical issues that impact the ISD community, the SSAC empowers young voices.
Objective: The primary goal of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is to engage with students in the pursuit of creating a supportive learning environment that prioritizes the safety and well-being of SWISD students.
Measurable Gains: Through monthly dialogues with the Superintendent, the Student Advisory Council will delve into the following areas:
Promoting a Safe and Inclusive School Environment, with a Focus on Preventing Violence and Nurturing a Positive School Community.
Equipping Students with Skills to Manage Crises, Resolve Conflicts, and Promote Empowerment.
Raising Awareness about Human Trafficking and Its Implications.
Strengthening the Bonds Between Schools and Communities Through Service Initiatives.
Empowering Youth by Establishing Programs and Activities That Encourage Volunteerism and Civic Engagement.
Enhancing Awareness of the Consequences Associated with the Use of Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana, and Similar Substances.
Early Detection of Mental Health Indicators, Substance Use, and Violence, as well as Facilitating Appropriate Referrals for Individual or Group Counseling Services from School-Based Mental Health Providers.
