More than 400 Alvin High School students and staff members celebrated Challenge Day, a special program meant to bring together students from different backgrounds to build empathy and compassion for their peers.
Each of the four days, 100 different students from all grade levels were led through activities that demonstrated the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth and full expression.
Activities included celebrating the small things in others, and in yourself, to help build a community of understanding and foster connections beyond physical traits or assumptions.
“Teachers told me it was the best thing they were a part of in all their years at Alvin,” AHS Counselor Catheryn Ramirez said. “Students called it amazing and told us that every student in the school should be a part of it.”
“Challenge Day was a school wide effort. It was a great experience, but it wouldn’t have happened without the support of the teachers, the staff, our counseling team, and my amazing Principal Karen Taylor and Associate Principal Dr. Webb,” Ramirez said.
