South San Antonio ISD Supplied for Success

SSAISD school supplies event shows teacher with shopping spree items

South San Antonio ISD (SSAISD) started the 2023-2024 school year with a show of community support that ensured students had the resources they needed for success. Thanks to initiatives like the TEXAS YES Project, elementary students across SSAISD received “Box of Dreams” kits filled with essential supplies, fostering a sense of care and support for each recipient. Special guests like Olaf from Frozen, plus characters from Trolls and Paw Patrol added an extra layer of excitement to the first day of school, making it a memorable experience for the children. This program, established 27 years ago, emphasizes the importance of equipping Title 1 Elementary students with the tools for long-term academic achievement.

Meanwhile, local grocery giant H-E-B demonstrated its commitment to public education successes by hosting a thrilling 90-second School Supply Shopping Spree for SSAISD. Ms. Theresa Camarillo, P.E. Coach at Armstrong Elementary, seized the opportunity to gather supplies for her students, racing through the aisles of H-E-B Plus on Zarzamora. With a live stream capturing the action back at Armstrong Elementary, students eagerly cheered Camarillo on, as she secured a generous donation of $2263.55 worth of supplies, courtesy of H-E-B.

These events show the power of community collaboration in supporting education. Whether it’s through organizations like the TEXAS YES Project providing essential supplies or businesses like H-E-B offering opportunities for teachers to stock up on resources, the collective efforts of the community play a crucial role in empowering students. SSAISD thanks both the TEXAS YES Project and H-E-B for these special programs. When communities unite for education, they create bright futures for students.
