Alvin ISD Surprises Teachers with Grants

Alvin ISD teachers and staff celebrate earning grants

The Alvin ISD Education Foundation’s Winners Wagon brought lively excitement, surprising teachers on 33 campuses and granting 119 Innovative Teaching Grants.  A total of $107,050.94 was awarded in grants to teachers and staff at Alvin ISD schools. Students enthusiastically joined the celebration as giant checks were presented, as well as Foundation board members, Alvin ISD officials, school board members, parents, and community partners. They rode school buses to surprise recipients and present the grants, with additional support from local high school band students and mascots.

Superintendent Carol Nelson noted, “The students brought the spirit and the fun to the Winners Wagon and they let everyone know that the Winners Wagon was on campus.”  Sheila Olson, the Education Foundation executive director, expressed enthusiasm for supporting teachers with innovative ideas, made possible by community support. Additionally this year, the INEOS ICAN Foundation provided the Foundation with a $6,600 grant specifically allocated for STEM-focused Innovative Teaching Grants, resulting in the funding of seven more grants, a partnership that the Foundation deeply values.

The grant funds will be utilized by staff to put in place diverse initiatives that bolster student achievement and triumph at their respective schools. President of the Alvin ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors, Melba Ervin, expressed, “We are proud of all our grant recipients this year and can’t wait to see their grants in action. The Winners Wagon is one of the best days in Alvin ISD. We love making teachers happy and supporting their dreams.”
