Harlandale ISD Senior Powerlifting Champion

Isabel Olivares is a senior at Harlandale High School, where her love for powerlifting is proudly supported. Olivares has been powerlifting since she was 11 years old, and she has developed a passion for the sport. Olivares states she has “been to Regionals four times, Nationals five times, and Worlds once.” Olivares’ trip to Worlds in Istanbul, Turkey was “nerve-wracking” because of how surreal the competition felt, but ultimately she was proud to not only represent her Harlandale community, but also San Antonio, Texas, and the United States as a whole. Her unfaltering passion for powerlifting stems from the pride she feels being a young woman in a challenging sport – It fuels her determination to continue to get better and stronger. Olivares encourages young girls to try out new sports, because, as she says, “you never know what you may end up loving, and if you don’t, then at least you can say you tried something new.”
