Heroes come in all sizes and ages, and a Fort Bend ISD student proved that to be true. Anvi Garyali, a senior at Dulles High School, was chosen as a recipient of the 2022 Student Hero Award for State Board of Education (SBOE) District 4. The SBOE Student Award recognizes Texas public school students in all grades who demonstrate outstanding volunteer work to benefit their fellow students, schools, or communities.

Garyali, who served as a member of the Fort Bend Community Prevention Coalition, was nominated for her selfless service to the community. During the pandemic, Garyali founded a non-profit called the Rhythm of Life that teaches seniors and teens mindfulness and health coping strategies for dealing with stress and other mental health problems. The pandemic was hard on everyone and some are still dealing with the effects that it left behind which is why nonprofits and other businesses like Garyali’s are so important to help us realize that we are not alone.
